FAQ
What is landed cost?
Landed cost is the total price of importing a product from origin to your warehouse. It includes the product cost, international shipping, customs duties, tariffs, CBP fees (Merchandise Processing Fee and Harbor Maintenance Fee), insurance, and any brokerage charges.
How are tariff rates determined?
Tariff rates are based on the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) code assigned to your product. Each product category has a specific duty rate. Additional tariffs — like Section 301 tariffs on Chinese goods — are applied on top of the base duty rate depending on the product’s classification.
Does this include Section 301 tariffs on China?
Yes. The calculator factors in the additional Section 301 tariffs that apply to most goods imported from China. These range from 7.5% to 25% depending on the product list. Rates are based on the current published schedules but may change as trade policy evolves.
What fees does CBP charge on imports?
U.S. Customs and Border Protection charges a Merchandise Processing Fee (MPF) of 0.3464% of the declared value (minimum $31.67, maximum $614.35 per entry) and a Harbor Maintenance Fee (HMF) of 0.125% on goods arriving by ocean freight.
How accurate is this calculator?
It provides estimates based on current published tariff rates, standard CBP fees, and typical shipping costs. Actual landed costs may vary based on your specific HTS classification, trade agreements, bonded warehouse usage, and broker fees. Use it for planning — consult a customs broker for final import costing.
